Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Launches Campaign
Helen Grant has today launched her campaign to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Maidstone and the Weald. Speaking at the launch of the campaign, on the back of excellent local election results for Kent Conservatives, Helen said:
"Firstly, I must congratulate our newly elected County Councillors on a tremendously hard fought campaign and their superb successes. I very much hope that this result will be repeated in the General Election in 5 weeks' time, but we take absolutely nothing for granted. And no-one should assume that council results will be repeated at the General Election.
It has been the most enormous privilege to serve as the MP for Maidstone and the Weald for the last 7 years. I am proud of my track record in delivering for the people of this wonderful constituency. Together we have improved school provision, championed local businesses and fought for improved NHS services. We have opposed inappropriate housing and solar power stations, and sought measures to reduce traffic congestion.
If I am re-elected I will commit myself to continuing to work tirelessly for the issues that matter to local people and to shaping the future we want for our local community and the country as a whole.
Furthermore, on a national level, the choice at this election is clear. Strong and stable leadership in the national interest with Theresa May to see us through Brexit and beyond – delivering well-paid jobs; more affordable housing; a good school place for every child; and a strong economy paying for a strong NHS or a coalition of chaos led by Jeremy Corbyn."
Helen also received support from former MP for Maidstone and the Weald Ann Widdecombe who said, "For the past 7 years, Helen Grant has worked tirelessly for the people of Maidstone, tackling constituents' problems and fighting on their behalf over many local issues. She is now seeking re-election to Parliament to support Mrs May in her bid to bring strong and stable leadership to Britain. I urge the people of Maidstone and the Weald to vote for Helen Grant on the 8th June."
